Vander Hill, Lucille – 1922-2010

Lucille Vander Hill of Newton Health Care Center, Newton, Iowa, was received by her Heavenly Father on Dec. 6, 2010. “Kept for God’s Glory in Eternity.”
Lucille Irene Talbot was born on May 29, 1922, on a farm south of Newton, Iowa, in Palo Alto Township, Jasper County to Verne E. and Evangeline M. (Nolin) Talbot. She grew up south of Newton and attended McCalmont School, McCartney School and The Brick Rural Schools. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1941.
She worked in Newton, Iowa, until 1944 when she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She worked for Collins Radio there before moving to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1957. She was employed by the Real Estate Board of Grand Rapids.
She was united in marriage to Adrian Vander Hill, Nov. 18, 1960, in Grand Rapids, Mich. They made their residence in Adrian’s hometown of Holland, Mich., where Lucille was a homemaker.
Lucille moved back to her hometown of Newton, Iowa, from Holland, Mich., in September of 2009.
Mrs. Vander Hill was a woman of God who enjoyed nature, mall walking, letter writing, visiting neighbors and family history. She was an avid reader and purple was her favorite color.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian, on Jan. 29, 1983; parents; brother, Carroll E. Talbot, in 1993; sister, Wanda E. Gruenhagen, in 2007; and nephew, Ronald Talbot, in 1994.
Those left to honor her memory include her nieces, Lynette Birkenholz, Beth Larson, DeAnn Mosbey, Janice Parrow and Jean Herbranson; nephews, David Talbot and James Gruenhagen; step-children, Mary Dwyer, David Vander Hill and Jack Vander Hill; step-grandchildren; and many friends.
She also is survived by her beloved Round Robin friends, whom she has shared a letter writing bond with since they graduated from high school in 1941, up until recently. They were like sisters, and they are Jane Clark, Louise Land, Marilyn Lammers, Marietta Lathen, Laura Messick, Miriam Slings and Gretchen Wharff (deceased).
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers at Newton Health Care.
Memorials may be given in her name to an organization of your choosing.
Private graveside services will take place at a later date at Palo Alto Cemetery.
