Betty J. (Bennett) Pelzer, 86, of Newton died Thursday, Dec 23, 2010, at Skiff Medical Center in the Monarch Wing in Newton.
A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec 30, 2010, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1115 S. Eighth Ave. E. in Newton, with Father William Reynolds and Deacon Dan Goetz officiating. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the church on the morning of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.
The daughter of Thomas and Anna (Nalevanko) Bennett, Betty was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Lovilia, Iowa. Betty was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1942. On Oct. 23, 1943, she was united in marriage to Howard E. “Tommy” Pelzer in Des Moines, Iowa.
Betty was owner and operator of Cline Tool for 58 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and loved being with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed entertaining and traveling and was a lifelong resident of Newton.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Cuba (Jim) Patterson of Newton and Ellona (Doug) Van Cleave of Sorrento, Fla.; five grandchildren, Chris (Heidi) Patterson, Larry (Abigail) Pelzer, Jackie (Jim) Parks, Mel (Alba) Van Cleave and B. J. (Jeremy) Shoemaker; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte Doty of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mary (Dwight) Carnahan of Camdenton, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Kay Welliver of Rockford, Ill.; a nephew, Paul Welliver of Rockford, Ill.; a niece, Sharon Mick of Des Moines; and a close friend, Marv Weeks of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard, in 2006; a son, Tom, in 2002; and a sister, Genevieve Starrett.
