MONROE — Donald W. Cash, 77, of Monroe died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at the Monroe United Methodist Church, with burial following at Gifford Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Coburn Funeral Home with the family available to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service also will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the Monroe United Methodist Church or the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The son of Horace and Louise (Wolcott) Cash, Don was born on April 6, 1933, in Jasper County. Don graduated from Monroe High School in 1952 and went on to proudly serve in the United States Army. On Aug. 6, 1953, he was united in marriage to Virginia Towns in Creston, Iowa. He worked as a printer at the Monroe Mirror for many years. He was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and the Prairie City Masonic Lodge. During the summer months, you would find Don on the golf course and in the winter he enjoyed bowling.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Virginia of Monroe; children, Lori Barberi of Florida, Jodi Warrick of Monroe and Doug Cash of Monroe; and four grandchildren, Dylan White, Jordan White, Kirsten Warrick and Jacob Warrick. Also surviving are two cousins, Doug Huigen of Washington and Betty Lou Long of Des Moines. Preceding Don in death were his parents.
