Laura L. (Rickerd) Gilpin, 47, of Knoxville, formerly of Newton, died on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, in Jackson, Minn.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Those left to honor Laura's memory are her husband, Tom of Knoxville; two sons, Lucas (Scena) Gilpin of Knoxville and Isaac Gilpin of Knoxville; her two grandchildren, Sky and Ava Gilpin; parents, Robert and Beth Rickerd of Newton; her sister, Melody Allman of Indianapolis, Indiana;. and niece, Jessica Allman of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Laura was born August 13, 1963. Laura was a graduate of Newton High School in 1981. Laura was a truck driver; she drove for Ben Shinn Trucking in Eddyville. Laura was a member of Helping Hands in Knoxville. She enjoyed taking care of animals and people, she also enjoyed mushroom hunting.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society or to the American Heart Association; memorials may be left at the funeral home.
