LeRoy Breer, 54, Dies Tuesday; Rites Thursday

LeRoy Breer, and 54, of 1309 S. 11th Ave. E., a resident of Newton for 25 years, died Tuesday morning at this Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Toland – Wallace Funeral Home.

The Rev. James Conger, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Newton Union cemetery.

Friends may call at the Toland - Wallace Funeral Home after noon today.

Survivors are his wife, Opal; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Beverly Breer of Des Moines; a brother, Calvin Breer of Baxter; and a sister, Mrs. Elmer (Esther) Weuve of Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Breer was a member of the Maytag Management Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Maytag 25-year Club and served in the Coast Guard during World War II.

The son of Walter and Frieda Sinkler Breer, he was born June 7, 1920 in Marshall County and was in 1939 graduate of Baxter Community High School.

LeRoy Breer died Tuesday; services today

LeRoy W. Breer, 54, a foreman in Plant 2 quality control, suffered a heart attack while at work Tuesday and died a short time later.

Services were held this morning in the Newton Toland – Wallace funeral home and burial was in Union cemetery.

Starting with the company in 1942, Mr. Breer worked in machining for a short time before entering the Navy. Following his discharge from the service, he returned to machining. In July, 1949, he transferred to automatic assembly and the following month transferred to the quality control area. In November, 1970, he was named a foreman.

On July 22, Mr. Breer was honored for 25 years of Maytag service. Active in company affairs, he had served as a union steward; a solicitor and area chief for the Employees' Consolidated Fund drive; on the former Relief and Benefit Association Board; as a member of the employee council; on several Family Picnic committees, and he was a member of the Maytag Management club.

In addition to his widow Opal, survivors include his son, Dennis, of Des Moines; a brother, Calvin, automatic assembly, and a sister, Mrs. Elmer (Esther) Weuve of Nevada. A brother-in-law, Robert Clement, works in porcelain. ~ The Maytag Bulletin, August 1, 1974

Former Baxter Man Buried At Newton

NEWTON - services for Leroy Breer, 54, a former Baxter resident who died July 30 while working at the Maytag plant were held Thursday at the Toland – Wallace Funeral Home here. Burial was in the Newton Union Cemetery.

He was born June 7, 1920 in Marshall County, the son of Walter and Frieda Sinkler Breer and was in 1939 graduate of Baxter Community High School. He served in the US Coast Guard during World War II. He was married to Opal Clement on May 25, 1941 in Missouri. He had been employed by Maytag for over 25 years.

He was a member of the Maytag Management Club the Maytag 25 year club and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his widow, a son, Dennis, Des Moines; a brother, Calvin, Baxter; and a sister, Mrs. Elmer (Esther) Weuve, of Nevada.
