Funeral Services Held Tuesday Afternoon at Christian Church

James M. Knapp, 67, well known and former Colfax resident, died at the I. O. O. F. Home in Mason City Saturday morning following an illness of several months.Jim, as we knew him about Colfax, was liked by all and always had a pleasant greeting and a smile for everyone. Even after misfortune overtook him he kept his sunny disposition.
James M. Knapp was born in Swan, Marion County, Iowa, in the year of 1871, and passed away from this life at the Independent Order of Odd Fellows' home in Mason City, Iowa, Saturday morning, Dec. 3rd, 1938, at the age of 67 years.
When a small boy, he came with his parents to Colfax, where he made his home until a few years ago, when, because of an accident that prevented him from performing his usual vocation, he went to the Odd Fellows Home, where he spent the declining years of his life.He became a member of the Church of Christ of this place when a young man and at one time was janitor of the church. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and was ever interested in the fine work that Order has always done. Coupled with his interest in the Church and the I.O O. F. was his spirit of helpfulness to others. The writer has learned that he spent a great deal of time looking after some of those who were less fortunate than he, and was always found lending a helping hand where needed. This was done without publicity, and was doubtless actuated by his love and respect for the teaching and spirit of God and Christ as set forth in Christ's church. The three links of Odd Fellowship, Friendship, Love and Truth, emphasized by that Order are but concrete expressions of the spirit of the Master of us all.
Mr. Knapp never married. Those of his immediate relatives who are mourning his demise today are a brother, John Knapp, of Greely, Colorado and two sisters, Mrs. Albert Williams of Hertle, Wisconsin, and Mrs. John Robson of Newton, Iowa. There are several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were conducted at the Church of Christ in Colfax, with the pastor, Rev. Amos A. Burr, in charge.
Interment was made at the Kintz cemetery.
Pall bearers were all nephews.Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. Earl Plummer, Mrs. Geo. Robinson, John A. Davis and B. F. Van Dike, with Mrs. George Rinker accompanist.
