RILEY FUNERAL SERVICES HELD
Rites Conducted at Morgan Funeral Home Yesterday Afternoon

Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the Morgan Funeral Home for Jerry Riley, resident of Jasper County and burial was in the Newton Union Cemetery. Rev. Paul E. Becker, paster of the local Christian church, had charge of the funeral rites.

Obituary

Jerry Riley was born at Nelsonville, Ohio, Oct. 7, 1860. While still a boy he moved with his parents to Rapid City, Ill., where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Alice Hodges in 1879. They came to Mahaska County, Ia., about 45 years ago, where Mrs. Riley died in January, 1893. Later on, May 3, 1894, he married Carolina Robinson at Oskaloosa. She preceded him in death Oct. 21, 1926.

He came to live in Newton 14 years ago and had been employed in the factories here, spending 10 years in the employ of the Automatic Manufacturing company. His death, which resulted from an attack of pneumonia, came at the home of his son, Clarence Riley, May 4, at the age of 67 years, 6 months and 27 days.

Survivors

Mr. Riley is survived by three sons and three daughters from his first marriage. The sons are Henry Riley of Colfax, and Archie Riley and Clarence Riley , both of Newton, and the daughters, Mrs. Marie Manuell of Hanna City, Ill., Mrs. Edna Washer of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Laura Shaw of Decatur, Ill. He is also survived by three sons and six daughters from the second marriage and they are, Sheldon Riley, Leroy Riley and Robert Riley, all of this city, and the daughters, Mrs. Ethel Smith, Mrs. Elizabeth McCollough, Mrs. Vera Tate, Mrs. Mildred Marr and Florence and Ardith Riley, all of Newton, and 19 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, one brother, John Riley of Valley Junction, and William Riley of Nelsonville, Oh. Two children preceded him in death.

Mr. Riley was united with the Christian church in early manhood.
