Pastor A.B. Sudbrock, 72, of Newton died Monday, July 19, 2010, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, at the Newton Baptist Temple, 621 E. 12th St. N. in Newton. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the time of service at the church. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. Memorials to the Newton Baptist Temple may be left at the church on the day of service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
The son of Henry E. and Pearl Marie (Wood) Sudbrock, he was born Feb. 6, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Indianola High School in Indianola, Iowa, and from the Baptist Bible College. On Nov. 1, 1955, he was united in marriage with E. Dorthea Wright in Chariton, Iowa.
He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was pastor of the Newton Baptist Temple for 42 years. He was a member of the Baptist Bible College Alumni Association and loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed preaching the word of God, woodworking, camping, fishing, hunting and eating. He had lived in Newton for 42 years.
He is survived by his wife, E. Dorthea Sudbrock of Newton; four sons, Albert L. (Laurie) Sudbrock, Paul E. (Chelle) Sudbrock, Joel W. (Dotty) Sudbrock and Philip L. (Karrie) Sudbrock, all of Newton; 13 grandchildren, Nathan, Lindsay, Zach, Melody, Denver, Jacob, Tabitha, Johnathan, Christian, Samantha, Skyler, Serenity and Sadie; three great-grandchildren, Alex, Trevor and Tyler; brother, Larry (Linda) Sudbrock of Dexter, Iowa; and two sisters, Audrey PerDue of California and Bernidine Ezra of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Lenard, Garold, Jack and Francis Sudbrock.
