Mrs. Ely Ulrey, 77 Dies at Home in Prairie City

PRAIRIE CITY - Mrs. Ely Ulrey, 77, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday at her home in Prairie City, following a stroke which she suffered a week ago.

Mrs. Ulrey was born Clara Freis (rest of word is cut off), in the year 1870 in Piatt County, Ill., and came to Iowa in 1912 where they resided on a farm five miles south of Prairie City.

About six years ago she and her husband retired and moved to their present residence in Prairie City. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1946.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth, son, Earl, her husband and two granddaughters, Kay and Phyllis Ulrey of Prairie City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Church of the Brethern of which she had been a lifelong member. The Rev. Morris Eikenberg of Dallas Center, will officiate. Burial will be in the Griffith cemetery, south of Prairie City.

Pallbearers will be Earl Brubaker, Wyatt Cadawallader, Louis Birker, Elrod and Merlin Brewer. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Feb. 1947
