Mrs. R. Shearer, Jasper Pioneer Resident Dies

PRAIRIE CITY - Mrs. Ross Shearer, 90, died at her home in Prairie City about 10:30 Sunday morning. She had been bedfast since Feb. 7, 1946, following a stroke suffered at that time.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock from the Walters Funeral Home with the Rev. W. W. Marzahn, pastor of the Methodist church officiating. Burial will be made in Waveland cemetery, north of Prairie City.
Mrs. Shearer the former Isabel Trisler was born April 2, 1856 at Huntsville, Ind., and came to Iowa at the age of 11 years, where she settled on a farm two miles west of Prairie City. On Feb. 26, 1885, she was married to Ross Shearer and they continued to reside on the farm until their retirement in 1903 when they moved to their present home in Prairie City. Mr. and Mrs. Shearer celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last February.
The deceased was a member of the Methodist church and very active in the senior Ladies Aid until her health prevented her attending. She was a charter member of the Ladies Reading Circle.
Survivors include her husband., two children, Marie Shearer and Ivan Shearer and two granddaughters, Mrs. Donald DeWitt and Phyllis Shearer all of Prairie City. ~ The Newton Daily News, Dec. 16, 1946
