Edward Long, 73, Dies Thursday Following Stroke

PRAIRIE CITY - Edward Long, 73, died at 6:30 Thursday evening at his home here following a stroke suffered two months ago. He had been in failing health two years and bedfast the past two months.
Mr. Long was born April 25, 1874, in Luzern County, Pennsylvania. he came to Iowa at the age of 29 and settled in Prairie City, where he was employed by the Dowden Co. He later moved to Des Moines, where he was associated with the Luthe Hardware Co., for 21 years. He returned to Prairie City about 18 months ago.
He was married to Miss Bessie Ruggless in Colfax in 1904 and to this union four children were born.
Survivors are the wife, two sons, Harold of Milwaukee, Wis., and Keith of New Sharon; two daughters, Mrs. Don McFadden, Prairie City, and Mrs. Keith Taylor, Mitchellville; also eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be from the Methodist church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. W. W. Marzahn in charge.
Burial will be at Waveland cemetery, near Prairie City. ~ The Newton Daily News, March 1947
