William Bowen Succumbs Today In Prairie City

PRAIRIE CITY - William (Chip) Bowen, 78, died at his home in Prairie City at 7:45 o'clock this morning. He had been ill since breaking his hip in a fall Mar. 1.

Mr. Bowen is well known throughout the state for his Wonder Corn Medicine which he has manufactured for many years.

He was born in Hubbard, Ohio, in 1869 and was united in marriage to Eliza Stewart of Albia in 1898. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in January of this year.

He had been a resident of Prairie City the past 35 years.

Besides the widow he is survived by four sons, Lyman of Oakland, Cal.; Murrell of Prairie City; Vernon of Eaton, Col.; Robert of Waterloo and one daughter, Mrs. Travis Walters of Prairie City. Four grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Sunday from the Walters Funeral Home. Rev. Walter Purdy of the Christian church will officiate.

Burial will be in the Waveland cemetery.

The deceased was a member of the United Mine Workers of American and of the Christian Church. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 13, 1948
