A. R. Shearer Dies Saturday At Prairie City

PRAIRIE CITY - Albert Ross Shearer, 91, retired farmer and a life long resident of Jasper county, died at 1:30 Saturday at his home in Prairie City.

He had been in failing health for the past two years.

Born Oct. 1855, near Vandalia, he grew to manhood and received his education in the rural schools in that vicinity. On Feb. 25, 1885, he was married to Miss Isabel Trisler. She passed away Dec. 15, 1946.

He moved to his present home in town from his farm two and one half miles west of Prairie City in 1903.

Survivors are a daughter, Helen Marie Shearer, Des Moines, and a son, Ivan, of Prairie City; also two granddaughters, Mrs. Donald De Witt and Phyllis Shearer, both of Prairie City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning from the Walters Funeral home. Rev. W. W. Marzahn of the Methodist church will officiate. Burial will be in Waveland cemetery.

Mrs. Sam McFadden will provide instrumental music. Pallbearers will be Sam McFadden, Roy McClellan, Oscar Kane, Earl Albright, William Sage and John Buitenwerf. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August 1947
