Margaret Jane Hayes Cahill, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, died Saturday, June 19, 2010, at her home in Mt. Pleasant after a lengthy illness.
At her request, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Newton, Iowa, with Steve Lunsford officiating. The family will greet friends from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Greencastle Cemetery. The Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
Margaret was born Nov. 14, 1923, in Garrison, Iowa. She was the daughter of Leonard Lewis and Fern Lucile (Crow) Hayes. On July 24, 1943, she married Leonard Eugene Cahill in Independence, Iowa. They moved to the Newton area in 1950, when Leonard got employment at Maytag. After the death of her husband, she moved to Marshalltown, Iowa, in January of 1992. She was a homemaker. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1972. She loved spending time with her family and friends, teaching people what the Bible teaches, attending Christian conventions and enjoying Bible study. She moved to Mt. Pleasant with her son and family in 2001.
She is survived by her daughter, Ida Lucille Reynolds of Newton; twin sons, Bernard Lewis (Jolene) of Des Moines and Leonard Eugene (June) of Mt. Pleasant; her grandchildren, Lisa Gregory of Newton, Scott Gregory (Karen) of Newton, Tanna Hawkins (Danny) of Lockport, La., Travis Reynolds of Lockport, La., Jason Cahill (Kim) of Ohio, Heather Schroeder (Gary) of Des Moines, Amy Chavez (Efrain) of Knoxville, Melanie Ruffalo (Anthony) of Grimes, Brent Cahill of Cedar Rapids and Wade Cahill or Mt. Pleasant; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard, on Sept. 18, 1991; son, Larry Lawayne on Nov. 24, 1972; granddaughter, Melisa Lynn Gregory, on March 3, 1983; and her sister, Thelma Menke.
