Rites Today For Retired Prairie City Banker and Factory President

PRAIRIE CITY – Funeral services for B. E. (Roy) Moore, 82, retired grain dealer and banker, who died at his home here Saturday were held at 2:30 p.m. today in the Prairie City Methodist Church.Mr. Moore’s death was attributed to complications which developed after a hip fracture suffered in a fall on Jan. 8.
Surviving is an only daughter, Mr. Roy Strain, and one grand-daughter, Marilyn Strain, a student at Iowa State College, Ames. Mr. and Mrs. Strain and daughter made their home with Mr. Moore. His wife, the former Carrie Boelhoefer, died in 1935.
Born near Brooklyn, Ia., on June 1, 1862, he had been a resident of Prairie city since 1886. He was a local grain dealer prior to being named president of the First National Bank., a position he held for about 20 years before his retirement in 1933. At the time of his death he was president of the local Dowden factory.
Mr. Moore was prominent in lodge work, having been a Mason for 53 years; he was also a charter member of the local Knights of Pythias lodge and a charter member of the local chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
The Rev. C. P. Hughes, former pastor of the First Methodist Church, now of Council Bluffs, Ia., officiated at the rites and interment was in Waveland Cemetery. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Jan 29, 1945
