Prairie City Woman Dies of Heart Ailment

PRAIRIE CITY _ Mrs. Amanda (Slemons) Kindgon, wife of W. E. Kingdon of Prairie city, died near noon today following a heart attack suffered Wednesday.Surviving, in addition to her husband are three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Nellie) Thompson of Chicago, Mrs. Ernest (Ruhama) Ford of Prairie City and Mrs. Thomas (Evelyn) Waugh of Lincoln, Neb. A son, Everett Kingdon of Prairie City, preceded her in death on March 8, 1944.
One of a family of 11 children, she was born July 27, 1866 at Eddyville, Ia., and on Feb. 26, 1884, was married to Mr. Kingdon at Prairie City.
Mr. and Mrs. Kingdon celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary, having with them, as their honored guest, the Rev. Mr. McDade who officiated at their nuptials. They would have observed their 60th anniversary of wedded life this year.
Mr. Kingdon, who retired in 1917 from farming just outside the Prairie City limits, has been in poor health since suffering a stroke last summer.
Mr. Kingdon was a member of the Methodist church, of the Reading Circle, Women’s relief Corps and of the Three-Quarter Century Club. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Feb. 1, 1945
