M. Ellen King Former Relief Director, Dies

COLFAX- M. Ellen King, former Jasper County relief director, died Friday at Dayton, Ohio hospital from a stroke of apoplexy she suffered en route to Dayton from Colfax. She was to make her home with her son, Lee, in Dayton and had returned last week from California where she had accompanied her sister, Mrs. F. E. Boyd for a visit with relatives.

Mrs. King served as Relief director from Aug. 10, 1945 until Dec. 31, 1947.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. V. Lee, she was born, May 16, 1892 in Sloan, Ia. She graduated from the Sloan schools and later attended Iowa State College at Ames and Grinnell College. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the O. E. S. in Prairie City.

May 14, 1914 she was united in marriage to Charles King and moved to Keokuk, where she resided until 1923 then moved to Prairie City which was her home until coming to Newton two years ago.

Mrs. King is survived by the son, Lee, a daughter, Mrs. Fred B. Hohenhorst of Chicago, a sister, Mrs. Boyd of Colfax and a brother, Robert E. Lee of Sloan and a nephew, Robert Little of Burbank, Cal.

Service will be held at two o’clock Tuesday from the Methodist Church in Prairie City. Rev. W. C. Dutton of Colfax will officiate.

Burial will be in the Waveland Cemetery near Prairie City. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 15, 1940
