J. Baldwin 81, Dies
Former Prairie City Mail Carrier, Painter Dies; Services Sunday

PRAIRIE CITY – J. C. (Jerry) Baldwin, 81, retired painter and mail carrier, succumbed at his home here Friday noon. Mr. Baldwin has been in failing health for some times and had been bedfast since Jan. 3.He was born Aug. 14, 1862 in Susquahanna, Pa., one of a family of 7 children. On April 8, 1884, he married Hattie E. Scall at David City, Neb. They moved to Iowa in 1893 from Fremont, Neb.
A member of the Baptist church, he also belongs to the Masonic Lodge, O. E. S. and M. W. A.
He is survived by a daughter, Sara Mae at home, two sons, Clark E., of Eddyville and Cloyd of Des Moines, one grandson and three brothers, M. H. Baldwin of Webb City, Mo., A. C. Baldwin of Austin, Tex., and P. O. Baldwin of Lincoln, Neb.
In addition to his wife who preceded him in death Nov. 27, 1939, he was preceded by a son, Earl, who died in infancy and a sister Anna.
The funeral services will be held at the Christian church Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the Rev. B. J. Buckingham, pastor of the Church of the Brethern, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Lowell Colston, pastor of the Christian Church.
Interment will be in the Waveland Cemetery.
