Daryle J. Whalen, 83, of Newton died Wednesday, June 2, 2010, in the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery with Deacon Dan Goetz of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. The family will greet friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.
Daryle is survived by his wife, Charlotte Whalen of Newton; a daughter, LuAnn Whalen of Round Rock, Texas; a son, Craig (Cheryl) Whalen of Wagoner, Okla.; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Dean) Garrison, Brandon (Allison) Whalen, Natalie (Justin) Devero, Matthew (Kaori) Whalen and Jacob Whalen; seven great-grandchildren, Indy and Ione Garrison, Lindyn Devero, Sarah and Emma Whalen, Jackson Whalen and Kaiden Hart; his brothers and sisters, M.C. Whalen of Houston, Texas, Don (Frankie) Whalen of Bastrop, Texas, and Barbara Ellis of Newton; a sister-in-law, Joan Whalen of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marjorie Smith; a brother, Jerry Whalen; and a great-granddaughter, Kaleigh Devero.
Daryle owned Whalen Well Company for more than 30 years, where he was a well driller. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a longtime resident of Newton.
