Norma Lee (Hevlin) Hotovec, 62 of Prairie City died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Pella Comfort House.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at the Prairie City United Methodist Church with burial following at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

Norma Lee was born on May 18, 1948, in Knoxville, Iowa to Loyd and Norma Jean (Edwards) Hevlin. She was raised in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1966. On May 2, 1970, she married Michael Hotovec in Knoxville. They lived in the Pleasantville area until moving to Prairie City in 1975, where their two daughters, Michele and Angela were raised and went to school.
Norma worked in the health care profession, starting as a ward secretary at the VA Hospital in Knoxville from 1966 – 1970. After moving to Prairie City, she went to DMACC and became a R.N. She worked for Dr. Veverka from 1976 until 1984. She then went to work as an occupational health nurse at the Federal Building in Des Moines. From 1984 – 1995, she became manager of the Altoona Medical Clinic in Altoona. In 2002 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and multiple sclerosis in 2004. She retired in 2004 and enjoyed traveling and camping. Most of all she loved camping with her grandchildren, Chase, Matthew & Mitchell. In her spare time she belonged to many clubs, Red Hats, United Methodist Women, Mothers Club and anything else that was fun or interesting. Norma’s kindness and generosity touched many lives, especially her family. Through her actions she taught many lessons. The most important, always tell it like it is, never lose your sense of humor or ability to laugh and shop until you drop! Which shopping was her favorite hobby and pastime.
Those left to honor her memory her husband Mick; daughters, Michelle (Michael) Holmes and Angela (Vince) Van Wyngarden; her grandsons, Chase Van Wyngarden and Matthew and Mitchell Holmes. Also surviving, her mother Norma Kane, her brother Lloyd Hevlin and sister Karen DeMoss and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceding her in death was her father, Loyd Hevlin and a cousin Doug Hevlin.
