A Good Mother Gone

Mrs. Mary Wilson died at her home in Reasnor, Iowa Sept. 7, 1907, at the age of 74 years. Mary Irwin was born in Ireland, Aug. 8, 1833. Her parents having died she was left an orphan when two years old and made her home with an uncle. She with a sister came to America when eighteen years old, living in New York three years, coming to Scott Co., Iowa in 1854; where in 1857 she was united in marriage to Wm. Wilson.

In 1876 they located on a farm in Palo Alto township, where in 1879 her husband died. Until a week before her death she was at the head of the home directing and advising her children to whom she was very devoted and affectionate.

She was a faithful member of the United Presbyterian church, spending hours daily, when in health reading her Bible and in silent communion with her Savior in whom she had unfaltering faith and the Bible as the revealed word of God from her childhood. In her devotion to God her church and her children she was a most worthy example.

Her six living children were at her bedside during her late illness and did all human efforts can accomplish to relieve her in her suffering. Mary J. and Sarah L. were yet in the home; Mrs. W. E. Denniston, Mrs. Eugene Bean and James I. living in Newton and W. O. living in Green City, Mo. Three children having died in infancy.
The funeral service was held at the home conducted by Rev. E. F. Gillis, her pastor, delivering a discourse from the text found in Psa. 17:15. The funeral was largely attended by friends and neighbors who respected and appreciated her life in the community. The interment was made at the Palo Alto township cemetery beside her husband who preceded her to the better world.
