Monroe
Died at his home some miles west of Monroe, last Wednesday, Mathew Williams, almost 80 years of age. He was a genial kind friend and neighbor, husband and father. He leaves his aged wife, several children and many friends to mourn his departure. He was taken sick a week before Old Settlers’ day at Monroe and it was hoped he would rally and get up. But it was not to be. He was an honored soldier of the war of the Rebellion and an honored member of the G.A.R. The funeral took place at his late residence at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon. The interment was in the Monroe cemetery.
