Marshalltown, Iowa – Helen M. Bedell, 95, of the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown, formerly of Newton, died of complications of Alzheimer’s Disease, Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Veteran’s Home.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Veteran’s Section of Newton Union Cemetery with Elder Dwight Kennedy of the Newton Jehovah Witnesses Church, officiating.
Visitation will be held after 2 p.m. today at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton. The family will be present at the funeral home tonight from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Memorials to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church will be accepted.
The daughter of Roland Henry and Teresa Barrett Morris Schilling, she was born May 28, 1902, in Iowa City. She was a graduate of Iowa City High School.
She married Forest Leslie Bedell Sept. 25, 1926, in Iowa City.
A resident of Newton since 1930, she recently moved to Marshalltown. She was employed as a dental assistant; by J.C. Penney Co.; the Sears Order Department; Avon; and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Barb of Newton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son; a granddaughter; and a brother. Source: Newton Daily News; October 23, 1997
