Colfax, Iowa – Hubert E. Bixby, 79, of Colfax, formerly of Prairie City, died Monday, Oct. 27, at Clearview Manor in Prairie City.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City with Rick Cox officiating. Burial will be at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.
Visitation will be held after noon today at the funeral home with family present there from 4 to 6 p.m.
The son of David and Beulah Seaver Bixby, he was born June 17, 1918, in Percy.
He married Helen Berkemann March 14, 1942, in Des Moines.
A longtime resident of Colfax and Prairie City, he worked as a chef in restaurants in Newton and Des Moines. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Linda of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Randy Lowe of Des Moines; two grandchildren; and four sisters, Thelma Dougal of Newton, Betty Schanthorst of Greeley, Colo.; Leona Creek of Bellingham, Wash. and Lenora Reams of Brighton, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
