Monroe, Iowa – William Daniel Betson, 65, of Monroe, died of a heart attack, Saturday, Nov. 15, at his home.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Larry Dean Gander, pastor of the Monroe Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Mystic.
Visitation will be held after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home where family will be present between 6 and 8 p.m. tonight.
Memorials in Mr. Betson’s name will b e accepted at the funeral home.
The son of Richard Harold and Martha Frances “Fannie” Richmond Betson, he was born July 17, 1932, in Mystic. He attended Mystic schools.
He married Virginia Mae Hobbs April 13, 1957, in Unionville, Mo.
A resident of Mystic and Des Moines, he lived in Newton for 12 years before moving to Monroe in 1991.
Mr. Betson was employed by the Newton Foundry for 14 years and worked at the Iowa State Fair for 27 years. He also was employed by Peanut Products, Par Mar Blanket Security, the City of Des Moines and worked in construction for the Newton post office and Newton High School.
Survivors include his wife; a stepdaughter and step-son-in-law, Kay and Alan Rude of Wausau, Wis.; two grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Max and Elaine of Monroe; a sister and brother-in-law, Dixie and James Carins of Centerville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter.
