Mingo, Iowa – Sophie E. Byal, 89, of 8316 W. 122nd St. N. in Mingo, died of heart failure Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Ashton Chapel in rural Baxter. The Rev. Robert Hinshaw, pastor of the Ashton Chapel, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Union Chapel Cemetery in Ira.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Ashton Chapel. No family visitation is planned.
Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
Born Feb. 22, 1908, in Chehalis, Wash., she was the daughter of Henry and Dorthea Hoerling Bohne.
She married Denver Byal, March 10, 1940, she was a homemaker. She was also a member of the Ashton Chapel.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Blaine and Pam of Mingo; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Gary Poulson of Bondurant; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three sisters, Marie Bohne and Rosie Moore, both of Newton, and Elsie Loper of Baxter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; Richard and Henry Bohne; and a sister, Florence Brantner.
