Daniel Brady, 96, of Newton died Friday, April 30, 2010, at his home at Park Centre.
A funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Tiare Mathison officiating. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Burt and Mary (Nickel) Brady, Dan was born Jan. 10, 1914, in Oralabor (Bondurant), Iowa. He moved to Newton when he was still in school, and he graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1933. On Nov. 23, 1937, Dan was united in marriage to Etha Maxine Neel in Newton.
Dan worked at the Maytag Company for many years as a tool designer, and during the last 10 years before his retirement, he was in charge of the Maytag Safety Program. He and Etha also owned and operated the Kone Korner. Dan was a member and elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton.
Survivors include his nephew and niece, Jim and Linda Lynn of Newton and Marjorie Stano of Eureka, Calif., and a cousin, Betty O’Leary.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Etha, in 2002; his brother, Edwin Brady; and a sister, Anna Fay Brady.
