Gary Ellis Iverson, 76, of Newton, Iowa, formerly of Ponca, Neb., passed away on April 20, 2010, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A memorial service will be at the Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, Neb., on Friday, April 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Neal Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery in rural Ponca. Online condolences may be sent at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.
Gary was born on Dec. 25, 1933, in Sioux City, Iowa, to E.C. and Virginia (Mikesell) Iverson. He married Sue L. Anderson on Aug. 23, 1952. He attended the University of Nebraska, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
His lifetime career included farming, 13 years with the Utah State Game Department, cattle buyer and president of Wagner Garrison Abbot Commission Firm. In 1976, he bought and operated Island View Resort on Farm Island Lake, Minn. Retired in 1985, he enjoyed his woodworking shop in Two Harbors, Minn. In 1991, Gary and his wife moved to Rockport, Texas, where they were members of the United Methodist Church.
Gary was a 50-plus-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He held a dual membership with the Morningside Lodge #615 at Sioux City, Iowa, and with the Franklin Lodge #27 at Cedar City, Utah, where he was a Master of the Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, E.C. Iverson and Virginia Iverson of Ponca, Neb. Survivors include his wife, Sue; his brother, Jack M. Iverson of Palatine, Ill.; two daughters, Kristine S. McGrail of Cicero, Ind., and Barbara F. Versteegh of Newton, Iowa; a son, Hans E. Iverson of Richfield, Minn.; two sons-in-law, Thomas and Marvin; one daughter-in-law, Kerstin; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, we appreciate donations to the Hospice of Central Iowa.
