Kane, LeRoy – 1887-1940

COLFAX – LeRoy Kane, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Cowman Kane, was born near Fairmont, Jasper county, Iowa, August 12, 1887. He lived in that neighborhood until three years ago, moving to a farm west of prairie City for one year and then to the present home south of Colfax, where he passed away Thursday, April 4, 1940.
He was preceded in death by his father and three brothers.
He is survived by his widow, the former Leora Goodspeed and five children, Dale of Prairie City, Mrs. Thelma Burns of Des Moines, Mrs. Mildred Connell of Denver, Colo., Beryl of near Ankeny and Mrs. Irene Foster of Des Moines. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Beryl Lee Kane, Janice Kane and Jo Ann Burns, his aged mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Kane of Monroe; three sisters, Miss Pearl Kane and Mrs. Rose Le Grand of Monroe and Mrs. Mary Lyons of Elmore, Minn.; five brothers, Fred, Ross and Bert of Monroe; Frank of Perry and Aretus of Amarillo, Tex.
In early life he was baptized and united with the Methodist church of Fairmont, Ia. On Easter Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Kane transferred their membership to the Colfax Methodist church.
Funeral services were conducted from the Colfax Methodist church at 2 o’clock Sunday, April 7, 1940, with Rev. Russell G. Nye in charge. John A. Davis, accompanied by William Cubit sang “In the Garden” and “The Twenty-third Psalm”.
Pallbearers were Frank Nearmyer, Clarence Sheeler, Chester Sheeler, Maynard Vaught, Everett Churchill and John Jennings. Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. R. E. Cummings, Mrs. Burtress Baker, Mrs. Myrtle McCracken and Miss Mamie Lynch. Interment was in the Colfax cemetery.
