Maxine Wolf McLain, 98, of Montezuma died March 31, 2010, at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 5, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. Friends may send condolences or sign the online guest book at www.hollandcoblefuneralhome.com. Holland-Coble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Maxine Beatrice Wolf McLain was born on March 28, 1912, near Victor, Iowa, the daughter of Cleveland and Blanche McAdams Mohr. She attended school in Guernsey and was a 1930 graduate of the Deep River High School. On Sept. 26, 1932, she was united in marriage to Gilbert “GYP” Wolf in Lancaster, Mo. To this union three children were born: Kenneth, Newell and Carolyn. The couple farmed the Deep River and Montezuma areas for several years. They later moved to Monroe, where her husband worked as a custodian until his retirement in 1977. After the death of her husband in 1986, Maxine married Forrest W. McLain of Montezuma. She was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church and served with the Montezuma United Methodist Women. Maxine was a devoted wife, loving mother and proud grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Gilbert “GYP” Wolf and Forrest W. McLain; an infant daughter, Carolyn Wolf; a brother, Phillip Mohr; and four sisters, Ellna Ochs, Marjory Wiedow, Bernice Oates and Frances Mullen.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Mickey) Wolf of Shelley, Mont., and Newell (Jane) Wolf of Newton, and two daughters, Beverly (Don) Gray of Montezuma and Marlene Gwin of Sigourney. Maxine also was blessed with seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
