Clarence W. James, 76, of Newton died on Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing.
The family will greet friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. A private family burial will be held at Newton Union Cemetery.

Clarence W. James was born July 15, 1933.
Those left to honor Clarence's memory are his daughter, Lori James of Newton; 3 sons: Dan (Toni) James of Owatonna, MN, Randy James of Newton, and Roger James of Sac Center, WI; 7 grandchildren: Heather James, Randy Birkenholtz, Adam James, Kellie James, Jason James, Tina Cupples, and Nikki James; many great-grandchildren; his sister, Joann (George) Halstrom of Texas; niece, GeorgAnne (Bill) Talsma of Newton; nephew, Dave (Brenda) Halstrom of Kansas; aunt, Gladys Reisgard of Des Moines; and many cousins, including Charles and Ruth Lester of Oklahoma.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, E.B. “Hop” and I. Mabel (Lester) James; his first wife, Bernice James; and second wife, Nelda James.
Clarence was a graduate of Newton High School. He was a retired truck driver working as an independent contractor and also for Schwerman Trucking. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge. He enjoyed flea markets, fishing, camping, and wildlife.
Memorials in Clarence's name may be left at the funeral home.
