John “Hansy” Hittinger, 60, of Montrose, Iowa, died at 7:16 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, at his residence in Montrose.
He was born on Oct. 1, 1949, in Gniebel, KS Tubingen, Germany, the son of Adam and Wilma Heimann Hittinger. He married Elizabeth Lynn Porter on Sept. 21, 1982, in Mansfield, Ohio. She survives.
He lived 22 years in Montrose after moving here from Mansfield, Ohio. He was owner and operator of a tavern. He enjoyed playing euchre, pool, darts, and gardening. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his grandsons. He enjoyed motorcycles and was a big fan of the Beatles.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hittinger of Monrtose; daughter, Carey Moore of Bowen, Ill.; son, Corey Moore, and his wife, Liz, of Keokuk, Iowa; three grandsons, Gavyn, Conner and Ostyn Moore; brother, Erich Hittinger, and his wife, Elke, of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Kathanina “Katy” Hittinger of Mansfield, Ohio; nephews, Mark Hittinger; four brothers-in-law, Karl Porter of Keokuk, Iowa, Dave Morgan of Montrose, Steve Morgan of Keokuk and Robbie Morgan of Arizona; one sister-in-law, Martha Mead of Montrose; and mother-in-law, Joan Whitmore, and her husband, Jim, of Montrose.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law, Julia.
Celebration of his life with family and friends will be on Monday, March 8, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at DeJong’s Funeral Home.
