Jean R. Smith, 66, of Newton went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 2, 1010. She had many occupations, and her latest was working for Herman Deaton as an artist.
Jean was a Christian and loved the Lord dearly. She was an animal lover and she enjoyed taking in strays and special needs animals. Her hobbies were writing short novels (non-published) art, hunting, fishing, camping and all outdoor activities.
She was born to Cecil R. Smith and Leona M. (Snook) on May 11, 1943, in Newton. Survivors are two sisters, Marva Yard of Denton, Texas, and Patricia (Larry) Etter of Newton; sister-in-law, Ardith Smith of Colfax; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her very special friend, Bessie Mc Keg, of many years who was always there to help her.
Jean was preceded in death by father; mother; brother, James Smith; niece, Chanda Jean Nichol; and nephew, Kenneth McReynolds. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in her name at Pence-Reese Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 8, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home. Family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday. (Interment: Palo Alto Cemetery, Newton, IA)
