Smoot, John E. (Bud), Jr – 1920-2010

John E. (Bud) Smoot, Jr., 89, of Spring Hill, Fla., passed away Feb. 17 after a short illness. He was born on July 12, 1920 in Dennis, Kan.
Bud loved planes and, after learning to fly in junior college, joined the Navy in October of 1941. During World War II he served as a flight instructor and also flew fighter and cargo transport in the Pacific Theater. He married Margaret (Margee) J. Wray in Ottumwa, Iowa, in 1943.
After the war, he graduated from Iowa State University and was a teacher in Boone, Iowa, before joining The Maytag Company. He retired from Maytag after 27 years and moved to Spring Hill, Fla.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Sara (Sally) Evans of Raton, N.M., son Jeff of Oshkosh, Wis., and son Brad of Albuquerque, N.M. He has four grandchildren, one great-grand child and sadly was preceded in death by a beloved granddaughter and step-grandson. Dad had many good friends and lived a good life.
