George W. Nuese, 87, of Marshalltown entered into eternal life Wednesday, March 3, 2010, under the care of Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown, Iowa.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Marshalltown. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, March 5, 2010, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory, Marshalltown. Interment will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Marshalltown.
George was born July 22, 1922, the son of Carl and Emma (Wolken) Nuese, in Dillon, Iowa. He attended schools in the Dillon area and graduated from Ferguson High School in 1940. George married Caroline Stock on Jan. 26, 1946, in Marshalltown. The couple farmed in the Dillon area until 1960 when they moved to Marshalltown, where George resided until his death.
George was employed by the City of Marshalltown with the street department until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed fishing, camping and especially traveling. George and Caroline visited all 99 counties of Iowa and the 48 contiguous states of the U.S. George enjoyed spending time with his family and being with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
George will be missed by his wife, Caroline, who he had been married to for over 64 years; his daughter, Brenda (James R.) Whaley of Marshalltown; three sons, Bradley (Susan) of Des Moines, Brent (Echo) of Marshalltown and Barry of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin (Helen) Nuese of Newton; and his sister, Bernita (Richard) Zitzow of Marshalltown.
In eternal life George joins his parents and a brother, Leo.
A memorial fund in memory of George has been established by his family.
