A funeral service for William F. Baumgart of Newton, Iowa, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, in the chapel at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha, Wis.
Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be just prior to the service. As an expression of sympathy, memorials in William’s name are being designated to the Salvation Army.
William F. Baumgart, 89, the son of Frederick and Margaret (Orth) Baumgart, was born April 23, 1920, in Waukesha, Wis. He was a high school graduate of Waukesha and later graduated from college. He served his country as a Lt. Commander Naval Air Pilot with the U.S. Navy in World War II.
In October 1943, William was united in marriage with Ramona J. Austin. To this union was born two sons, Bill Jr. and Kris. He was employed as a senior vice-president for New York Life Real Estate Mortgage Insurance. He was a Free Mason and enjoyed his family, the outdoors, fishing and was a great storyteller. Since 1986, he had lived in Ankeny, Lake City and Newton, Iowa.
Death came to William on Feb. 28, 2010, in hospice care at Park Centre Health Care in Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ramona, in December 2000; his two brothers and one sister.
Those left to honor William’s memory include his sons, Bill Jr. (Barb) Baumgart of Chicago, Ill., and Kris (Sandy) Baumgart of Newton; his three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
