Bernice “Bea” York, 89, of Newton died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf of the First United Methodist Church in Newton officiating. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials to Project AWAKE may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Neal and Elizabeth (Van Hemmert) Kleinendorst, Bea was born Feb. 8, 1921. She was a graduate of Newton Senior High School. On Nov. 5, 1939, she was united in marriage to Frank York in Bethany, Mo. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Newton. Bea enjoyed spending time with and taking care of her family. She also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her husband, Frank of Newton; her son, Gary (Carol) York of Newton; her daughter, Connie (Ted) Bisom of Rock Island, Ill.; five grandchildren, Michael Dale (Rachel) Bisom, Justin L. York, Lisa Michelle Bisom, Matthew John (Faith) York and Eric Raymond York; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Bisom, Penelope York and Elliot York; a brother, Bob (Dorothy) Kleinendorst; a sister, LaVonne (Gene) Talbot; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
