Marjorie (Mateer) McVay, 80, of Newton died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton.
A memorial service will be at a later date. Memorials to American Cancer Society may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton.
The daughter of Harold and Iva (Wilson) Mateer, Marjorie was born Dec. 27, 1929, in Newton. She was a graduate of Newton Senior High School and worked as bookkeeper. She then was the manager and co-owner of an auto parts store in Newton. She later worked in the school lunch program. Marjorie was a lifelong Newton resident.
Survivors include her son, Doug McVay of Oakland, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Sally Mateer of Texas; and several nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy, in 1984; and her brother, John Mateer.
