A funeral service for Betty Nikkel, 84, of Pella will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella.
Visitation begins at noon Friday at the Pella Garden Chapel Funeral Home, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Betty Marie Nikkel, daughter of John and Katie Fopma Laverman, was born March 23, 1925, at the family home north of Sully, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at the Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Center in Oskaloosa, Iowa, at the age of eighty-four.
On January 11, 1945, Betty was united in marriage with Bernie J. Nikkel at the church parsonage in Sully. To this union seven children were born: Warren, Larry, Ervin, Verlin, Diane, Pamela, and Brent.
Betty and Bernie farmed in the Kellogg and Newton area for several years after their marriage. A few years after Bernie's death, Betty moved to Pella. In the early years Betty enjoyed caring for her family and later became a cook at the Pella Regional Health Center and Fair Haven. She retired from Fair Haven in 1996.
She was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella where she was an active member of the Ladies Aid Society. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and cooking.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses: Larry and Connie Nikkel of Altoona, Ervin and Kim Nikkel of Reasnor, Verlin and Peggy Nikkel of Oskaloosa, Diane and Jay Bruxvoort of Oskaloosa, Pamela and Paul Bolles of Prairie City, Brent Nikkel of Oskaloosa; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and two brothers and their wives: Wilford and Henrietta Laverman and Les and Marcella Laverman all of Sully.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernie; her son Warren Nikkel and his wife, Donna; daughter-in-law, Debbie Nikkel; and sister, Charlene Vander Hart.
Memorials may be left to Christian Opportunity Center in Pella and Newton Christian School.
Interment at Sully Cemetery; Sully, Iowa
