Miss Jessie Cavell Dies Yesterday After Two Years Illness

Deceased Had Spent Almost Her Entire Life in Newton

Took Care of Parents Till Their Death Years Ago

Trip to Arizona Failed to Benefit Health-Funeral Saturday Morning

After a lingering illness that has extended over the major portion of two years Miss Jessie Cavell passed away yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home of her sister, Mrs. L. W. Franz of this city. Death came at the end of a long struggle against a bronchial trouble. It has been known for some time that recovery was virtually impossible.

Miss Cavell came to Jasper County with her parents in 1877 when she was but five years of age. Her parents, William B. and Lucy L. Cavell, resided on a farm northeast of Reasnor, on what is now known as the Henry Young place. Previously to coming to Iowa they had lived on a farm at Atkinson, Illinois. In 1890 the elder Cavell's moved to Newton and took up their home on North Scott street, where they each lived until death-Mr. Cavell having died in May 1899, and Mrs. Cavell having passed away in February, 1908. Miss Cavell lived in the old home place until a year ago last December when she went to Prescott, Arizona and spent the following four months with her brother, Arthur thinking that the dry climate might improve her health. When she returned to Newton she left her home and has since been living with her sister, Mrs. Fannie France.

The deceased was not a member of any church but she generally attended the Congregational church. She was a member of the Eastern Star order, and has ever been an active worker in the order when health would permit.

She leaves four brothers and two sisters as follows: J. F. Cavell of Newton; Chas. A. of Portland, Oregon, Arthur M. of Prescott, Arizona, Harry, of Laurel, Mrs. James Nowers of Atkinson, Ill., and Mrs. France of this city. Two brothers, Fletcher and Edward died in boyhood and a baby sister and baby brother died in infancy.

The funeral will be held on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Leonard France home. Rev. Williams will officiate. None of the brothers and sisters will be able to be here save the sister, from Illinois and the brother from Laurel. ~ Newspaper unknown.
