Monroe Legacy -

Services for Delmar Breckenridge were held Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at the United Presbyterian Church in Monroe. Rev. Larry Gander, Pastor, officiated the services. Interment was in Union Cemetery in Newton.

Mr. Breckenridge died Sunday, May 23, 1999, at the Clearview Manor in Prairie City.

Delmar Breckenridge, the son of Alex and Addie Mae (Myers) Breckenridge, was born at State Center, June 6, 1912. He attended rural schools and on August 21, 1930, was united in marriage to Dorothy Buckley at Newton. They lived in the Newton area for many years, where he was employed as a foreman at Maytag for a time and also did trucking and was a grain dealer. He retired in 1974 as a driver for Holland Plastics of Gilman. He was a member of the Newton First Christian Church, Maytag Management Club and a charter member of the New Ia Jaco Camping Club of the National Campers and Hikers Association. He and Dorothy had served as state teen directors of this group for several years. He has lived in Monroe since 1986, where they attended the Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Clearview Manor, a son Glen and wife Lorraine of Mitchell, daughter Ada Beth and husband Dale Hume, Monroe, daughter-in-law Geri Breckenridge, Kerrville, TX, six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and a great great grandchild. Also surviving are two brothers, Burton of Newton and Floyd of St. Louis.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son Richard, a sister Bessie and six brothers; Alfred, Walt, Lester, Frank, Bill and Glenmore.

A memorial for the Monroe Library Building Fund has been designated by the family.
