Darrold “Yea” Hunter, age 85 of Colfax, died Monday, Jan. 04, 2010 at Heritage Manor in Newton.
Funeral services for Mr. Hunter will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Colfax United Methodist Church with burial following at the Colfax Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday at Coburn Funeral Home of Colfax from 3 to 7 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Darrold “Yea” Hunter Memorial Fund and will be distributed at the discretion of the family. The son of Isaiah and Ada Myra (Miller) Hunter, Darrold was born on April 8, 1924. He was a graduate of Colfax High School, Class of 1942. While in high school, Darrold was a standout football player where he quite often gave the crowd a thrill and they started cheering “Yea Hunter” and after that the nickname stuck. After high school, Yea proudly served as a member of the United States Army during WWII.
On January 31, 1964 Yea was united in marriage with Mary Butler at the Colfax United Methodist Church Parsonage. He worked as a factory supervisor for The Monroe Company for over 50 years.
Yea enjoyed woodworking, bowling and gardening. He spent countless hours tending to the flowers at the Mineral Springs Park. Yea was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and the Colfax United Methodist Church.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife of over 45 years, Mary Hunter of Colfax, one sister, Margaret Smith of Colfax, and many nieces and nephews. Yea was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald Hunter and Wilbur Hunter.
