Funeral of J. J. McCartney

The funeral service for the late Jas. J. McCartney, whose death occurred on Tuesday afternoon, May 7th, were held at the Palo Alto United Presbyterian church at 10 o’clock Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. A. Jamieson of Newton, assisted by Rev. S. F. Sharpe of Monroe. There was a large attendance of old friends and neighbors, many of them from Newton, Monroe and Reasnor. Music was furnished by the U. P. choir, and the pall bearers were old friends and associates of deceased – Messars. George Harlan, Geo. R. Hill, S. H. Rees, R. l. Rees, Dan Stanton and Hugh E. Smith.

Mr. McCartney’s age was nearly 61 years, born in Hancock County, Virginia, August 14, 1851. When he was ten years of age he came with his parents to this county, settling on a farm a few miles south of Newton, on which he has lived ever since, except a few years in Monroe. June 12, 1902, he was united in marriage with Miss Alice Mason of Monroe, who with one child, Robert M., survives him. ~ Newspaper unknown.
