Terrible Death From Burns

Mrs. Al Coleman, Formerly of This County, the Victim

Mrs. Annis Livingston Coleman received through a telegram last Friday morning, new of the frightful death of her stepson’s wife, Mrs. Al Coleman, which occurred at her home in Judson, Indiana Thursday afternoon.

The particulars of the tragedy, as near as we can learn them, are: Mrs. Coleman about nine o’clock in the morning, had polished her cook stove and was standing on top of the stove to black the stove pipe, when suddenly there was an explosion, resulting from the polishing fluid which she had accidentally spilled and which it is supposed ran through onto the few burning coals in the stove. Mrs. Coleman’s clothing was soon in a blaze. She ran to the door with the can of polish, where her husband and sister, Miss Anna Coleman, met her. Before they succeeded in extinguishing the flames, the poor woman’s body was terribly burned and she suffering internally from having inhaled the flames. Mrs. Coleman lingered, in great agony, until about 3 o’clock in the afternoon, when death came as a merciful relief.

Mrs. Coleman’s age was about 44 years. She leaves, besides her husband, two sons, Harvey and Fay, and her sister, Miss Anna Coleman, who has long made her home with the family.

The remains were taken to Glendon, in Guthrie County, this state, where the funeral was held last Saturday. The husband, one son and sister, in their sad journey homeward, arrived in Newton yesterday morning, and are stopping for a few days with Mrs. Annis Coleman and other friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Coleman lived for eight years on the Ira Livingston farm, southeast of Newton, in Adamson Grove, and afterward in Reasnor until they moved to Indiana five years ago. They were well known and held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends in this vicinity, among whom the sad death of Mrs. Coleman has caused the deepest sorrow and elicited the tenderest sympathy of the bereaved ones. ~ Newspaper Unknown.
