Death of Mrs. John Hews

A Beautiful Tribute to the Life of a Splendid Woman.

Francis Eliza Hewitt Hews was born at Burlington, Iowa, April 9, 1951. In the fall of 1852 her parents moved to Jasper County. Here she grew up amid the frontier scenes. On Oct. 3, 1878, she was united in marriage with John Hews. To them was born one child, Leota May, who died in infancy. Mrs. Hews united with the Church of Christ in Wichita, Kansas, in 1884. She died at her home in Galesburg, Iowa, Feb. 14, 1909, aged 57 years, 10 months and 5 days.

Her faith in God never wavered. Out above the clouds of earth she in her faith could see the sunlight of God. But it was in her attitude toward those around about her that her beautiful life was best seen. No one, no difference what the trouble or sorrow, ever went from her door without feeling that the load was lighter if not entirely removed. Her sympathy was unbounded. She was never too tired or sick to help those in need. Her hand was always extended to the one who was in sorrow or pain. We all remember her self-sacrifice in her home in caring for those who were sick.

Surely we will all be better because w e have known her. For to know her was to love her and to be under her influence was to lift us to higher and holier life. She has not lived in vain. She has gone hence but her life will live on throughout many decades and many will rise up to call her blessed. Our hearts are touched but in our sorrow let us look up to the highlands and try to be as beautiful of life as she. ~ Newspaper unknown.
