Virgil Sams Died at Home Near Mingo
Virgil B. Sams, 58, a long time resident of the Mingo vicinity died at his farm home 1 mile and a half southwest of that town Friday morning.
Virgil Bayless Sams was born August 1, 1896 on the old home place near Mingo where he resided until his death January 6, 1955 after an illness of about three weeks.
Virgil attended the Mingo school. He was a kind and loving son and brother, devoted to his home. He lived a good Christian life and was well versed on the Bible.
Mr. Sams is survived by his mother, Mrs. Cordia Sams and brother Roy, of near Mingo; a sister, Mrs. Ray (Evelyn) Carlson of Linden, James and another brother John of Knoxville, Ia. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Sams and three sisters, Lina, Vera and Goldie Sams.
Funeral services were conducted from the Mingo Methodist church Sunday afternoon, January 9th at 2:00 with the Rev. Ralph Erls officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Howard Southern, Mrs. Louis Neal; Otho Hulse and Eldon Geisler with Mrs. Dale Harter, pianist.
Bearers were C. G. Akins, Dale Harter, Russell Southern, Howard Southern, Lewis Cummings and Geo. Hill.
Burial was in the Sams cemetery near Mingo.
