Alice J. Barnes, 75, of Keokuk, Iowa, formerly of Newton, Iowa, died at 12:50 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at the Keokuk Area Hospital.
She was born on March 5, 1934, in Keokuk, the daughter of Earl and Frances Clinton Barnes. She graduated from Burlington High School.
She was employed by Skiff Medical Center in Newton as an assistant dietitian. She lived in Newton for 34 years and moved back to Keokuk about a year ago. She enjoyed bowling in her earlier years. She enjoyed antiquing, yard sales and loved to travel with her friends.
She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Barnes of Keokuk and Bonnie Berry of Moline, Ill.; two brothers, Delbert Barnes and his wife, Edythe, of Keokuk; James Barnes of Donnellson, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.
Graveside services were Wednesday morning, Dec. 16, 2009, at Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial followed at Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk. There was no visitation.
The family requests no flowers and suggests memorials to the New Testament Church.
DeJong’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
