Stoulil, Barney K. – 1931-2009

Barney K. Stoulil, 78, of Newton died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, with Chaplain Merle Smith officiating. The family will greet friends from noon until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.
Memorials to the Newton Public Library, Moose Lodge #923 or the Newton Fire Department may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Louie F. and Anna (Schaumberg) Stoulil, Barney was born Sept. 8, 1931, in Newton. On Dec. 11, 1955, he was united in marriage to Gloria M. Corbett in Newton.
Barney served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and he was a member of the UAW Local 997 and the Newton Moose Lodge #923. Barney worked in production for the Maytag Company for 30 years and then worked at the Newton Public Library for 21 years.
He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and bowling and was in a Maytag Bowling League. Barney also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He loved playing the lottery and enjoyed pull tabs and scratch tickets, and he enjoyed talking to people. Barney was a lifelong resident of Newton.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria of Newton; one son, Larry Keith (Deb) Stoulil of Newton; one daughter, Terri Ann (Doug) Swank of Newton; three grandchildren, Niki Swank Whitacre (John) of Newton, Ashley Swank (Nick Backus) of Baxter and Austin Keith Stoulil of Newton; a nephew, Buddy Stoulil of Newton; and a niece, Lynn Stoulil of Wisconsin.
He was preceded by his parents; three brothers, Bill, Bob and his twin brother, Bernie “Bud”; and two grandsons, Jeffery Gene Swank and James Douglas Swank.
