WEST DES MOINES – Funeral services for Louis Kenneth Matteson, 77, of 4617 Woodland Ave., West Des Moines, a former resident of Newton and employee of The Newton Daily News, were held this morning, June 23, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines.
Graveside rites were held this afternoon at the Newton Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
He died of a heart ailment Thursday at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.
Memorial contributions to the Grace Methodist Church will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Dixie; two sons, Guy of Des Moines and Steve of Polk City; two daughters, Marsha Griggs of Grimes and Sherry Cobble of Whittier, Calif.; two brothers, Kendall of Newton and Virgil of Grinnell; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Matteson, a veteran of World War II, was a member of the Grace Methodist Church, Elks Lodge 98, Elks clown organization, 40 and 8, American legion Post 111, of Newton, and International Typographical Union 118 of Des Moines.
He also was employed for many years by the Des Moines Register and Tribune Co. as a printer.
