Rites Held for Rosa Henning
Rosa Henning, 96, of Baxter, a longtime resident of Jasper County, died Friday, December 9, at the Colonial Manor in Baxter.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 12, at the United Church of Ira.
The Rev. Eldon Nolte, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in Union Chapel Cemetery.
Jean Akins was the organist, and Mrs. Max Butler was the soloist.
Pallbearers were James Smith, John Weston, Sr., Robert E. Matthews, James Matthews, David Matthews and Steven Matthews.
Boyd-Davis Funeral Home in Baxter was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are two nephews, Robert Matthews of Mingo and John Matthews of Glendale, Calif., and a niece, Elizabeth Matthews of New York City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and a brother in infancy.
Miss Henning was a member of the United Church of Ira and a former member of the Ira Garden Club.
She resided most of her life on the family farm in northwest Jasper County except for 15 years when she resided in Des Moines and was head cook at the Ramsey Home.
The daughter of George and Eva Mussig Henning, she was born January 26, 1887 in the Ira area. She was raised in Ira and attended the Elm Grove School.
Miss Henning had resided in Baxter since 1964 and at the Colonial Manor for the past four years.
